Viewing and Managing Notifications

Your Dashboard provides access to various notification categories that announce actions related to your PACFilings, proxies, or filings by others on your cases. Regardless of the notification type, any time an action is completed that triggers a notification, it automatically appears through two locations on your Dashboard, a standalone grid and a link to a dedicated screen. While similar in function, their uses can be tailored for various needs.

The Notifications grid

Located towards the bottom of your Dashboard, this grid displays up to 500 of your most recent and unread notifications. In concept, think of this grid as an inbox for all your new PACFile-related communications. The Category and Notification Type columns classify each notification you receive and the Subject column offers an abbreviated summary of the notification. The availability of any electronic documents associated to the notification can be identified by the existence of a checkmark (Has Documents icon) in the Has Documents column. These documents can be accessed by clicking on the corresponding View Notification icon View Notification icon (see below). In addition, a series of other icons, either information or functional, are available for many notifications:

The following icons may appear in the Other Info column:

  • Comment icon Comment icon - Indicates the notification contains supplemental comments that were provided by the court or someone in your proxy relationship.

  • High Priority icon High Priority - Identifies notifications that require your immediate attention. eService notifications are the most common type that feature this indicator, but they also appear on Filing Not Submitted, Filing Payment Failed, and Filing Rejected notifications.

In general, you can perform each of the following action on any individual notification, using the icons at the far right:

  • View Notification icon View Notification icon - Opens a popup screen that displays the full content of the corresponding notification.

  • Forward To icon Forward to icon - Share a notification with other people in the same proxy relationship. Refer to the Forwarding Notifications topic for more information.

  • Mark as read icon Mark Selected Read icon - Marks the notification as read and ensures the notification will not display in the grid the next time you refresh, or reenter, your Dashboard.

  • Mark as unread icon Mark Selected Unread icon - Appears only if the notification has been marked as read, you can use this icon to ensure a specific notification continues to display in this grid.

  • Delete icon Delete icon

Based on the type of notification, you may also have the option to perform the following actions:

  • View icon View icon - Provides the option to view the corresponding filing that triggered the notification, often as a result of an action taken by another case participant.

  • Create Filing icon Create Filing icon - In a handful of instances, which comes at the action of a court, a notification may request that you create and submit a filing. This might, for example, occur if the court has identified a problem with a filing you submitted and is requesting that you submit a corrected filing.

In addition, when using the checkboxes at the far left of this grid, you can select multiple notifications to perform batch actions using the icons appearing above the grids. The Mark Selected Read icon Mark Selected Read icon, Mark Selected Unread icon Mark Selected Unread icon, and Delete icon Delete icon work the same way as those for individual notifications. Beyond these, several other icons display:

  • Settings icon Settings icon - Manage how often you receive notifications. Refer to the Manage Notification Settings topic for more information.

  • Filter icon Filter icon - If you receive a lot of notifications, consider using a filter to narrow those that display by notification type, filing type, docket number, filer, or filing type. You can also sort by these same options in ascending or descending order. The default sort shows allow your newest unread notifications first.

The Notifications screen

Accessible through the Notifications link in the bottom right of your Dashboard, this screen provides an alternative approach to viewing your notifications. Separate from the grid on the Dashboard, this screen is more specifically designed to manage the notifications you've received. All notifications you've received in the last 60 days, read and unread, appear by default. Notifications older than 60 days are deleted automatically.

You can perform each of the following action on any individual notification, using the icons at the far right:

  • Mark as read icon Mark Selected Read icon - Marks the notification as read and ensures the notification will not display in the grid the next time you refresh, or reenter, your Dashboard.

  • Mark as unread icon Mark Selected Unread icon - Appears only if the notification has been marked as read, you can use this icon to ensure a specific notification continues to display in this grid.

  • Delete icon Delete icon

In the Other Info column, the High Priority icon High Priority identifies notifications that require your immediate attention. eService notifications are the most common type that feature this indicator, but they also appear on Filing Not Submitted, Filing Payment Failed, and Filing Rejected notifications.

Beyond these, two other icons display:

  • Settings icon Settings icon - Manage how often you receive notifications. Refer to the Manage Notification Settings topic for more information.

  • Filter icon Filter icon - If you receive a lot of notifications, consider using a filter to narrow those that display by notification type, filing type, docket number, filer, or filing type. You can also sort by these same options in ascending or descending order. The default sort shows allow your newest unread notifications first.

Additional filtering tools appear at the top of the screen. Clicking any of the notification type, read only, or unread only checkboxes, and clicking OK automatically filters your list of available notifications. If you tend to receive a lot of notifications, applying one or more of these filters immediately after entering the screen is recommended.

Unlike the grid on your Dashboard, it is not possible to open or create filings from a notification.
